Wealth Tax Argentina
About Wealth Tax Argentina
Argentina has a personal assets tax on net worth. The tax was introduced in 1991 and has been modified repeatedly. Rates range from 0.5 to 1.25 percent on assets above approximately 12 million Argentine pesos. Argentina has also imposed one time wealth taxes, including a pandemic solidarity tax in 2020 on assets over 200 million pesos. The Argentine tax system is notoriously complex and subject to frequent changes. High inflation complicates tax compliance, as asset values must be adjusted. Argentina has also imposed currency controls and export taxes. The personal assets tax has been challenged in court but upheld. Argentina is one of the few countries with a comprehensive wealth tax on all assets, not just real estate. Revenue from the tax has been limited due to widespread evasion and capital flight.
